Breath Discovery is the realisation of how profound our breath is and how powerful breathing practices can be for healing. Not only in the physical sense but also in the mental, emotional, and spiritual. Breath Discovery reconnects mind, body, soul. 

Breath Discovery is a deep dive inward, away from the thinking mind, negative thought patterns, and reactive behaviours. It provides an opportunity to rediscover our essence and wisdom. It is a way back to a balanced and more joyful life through the power of our own breath.

A Breath Session

Technique: Conscious Connected Breathing

The Breath Discovery technique is based on Conscious Connected Breathing and Acupressure Points. It is a deep dive into self to help process unintegrated emotions, to release the unresolved life experiences, to let go of recurring negative thought pattenrs, and to reconnect with our mind, body, soul.

As a client you will experience two elements in your session: 

The coaching session: approximately 45 minutes

The coaching session helps to reflect on your life experiences, challenges, motivations, and triggers. This allows for a sharing of insights and perspectives without judgement. It sets the intention for your breathing session. For the initial session we follow a defined process using an intake form.

The breathing session is facilitated through the connected breathing tehcnique and physical touch. In the session you are conscious, lying down, connecting your inhale and exhale without pause. This creates a meditative type state where the conscious mind becomes less active, allowing the subconscious to emerge. Accuperssure points are stimulated through touch and affirmations are spoken.

There is a shift in awareness which can allow for:

  • Enhanced mind, body, soul connection.
  • The processing of suppressed emotions, triggers, mental stress, and physical stress.
  • A rediscovery of presence or a spiritual connection to self that resides within us.

From Existing to Living

I am a Certified Breathwork Facilitator and Coach with the Breath & Consciousness Academy (NL).

I am a member of the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF).

Existing before Breath Discovery

I began my breath journey in 2020. With the global impact that year, and with more time for myself, the perfect storm allowed the Breath Discovery journey to begin. Stress and reactivity had been a big factor in life, and the inability to destress had begun to take its toll. Surely there was more to discover beyond physcial exericse and reactive behaviour?

Doing the Work through Breathwork

Initially the discovery of breath as a stress response technique was beneficial however it did not go deep enough to destress the body and mind. In 2021 the discovery of Conscious Connected Breathing changed everything. By taking a deep dive inwards, facing fears, releasing what had been supressed for years, and letting go of control, this created the breakthrough I had been looking for. This is referred to as ‘doing the work’.

Living a Life of Fulfillment and Purpose

Through breathwork I discovered a more present and joyful existence as old patterns and reactive behaviours are processed and integrated. I now respond to life’s challenges moving away from reactive behavious. Breathwork has created a space for fulfillment and purpose. This space is a slowing down allowing me to engage fully in the present moment. This empowers me to take action as needed in a far more responsive and balanced way. I feel a deeper and more grounded connection to myself and to life in all its forms.

THE SCIENCE

Science and Academia

Conscious Connected Breathing is a transformative breath technique impacting on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. The Breath and Consciousness Academy and the Vrije University Amsterdam developed a research paper on the ‘Effects of Conscious Connected Breathing on cortical brain activity, mood and state of consciousness in healthy adults’.

The study was performed in line with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. Ethical approval was obtained from the Scientific and Ethical Review Board of the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences at Vrije University.

The academic paper provides a deep dive into the brain activity, qualitative insights, and areas for further study.

Highlights include:the participants experienced an increase in self-esteem while they experienced a reduction in negative affect states (tension, confusion, depression and anger). With respect to neurophysiological findings the power of low Beta waves was found to decrease.  Beta waves have been associated with alertness, focus, stress, and anxiety.

This is also in line with psychodynamic theories which commonly attribute the occurrence of emotional breakthroughs as a consequence of releasing bodily tensions that have accumulated through the suppression of negative emotions over a long time. The decrease in slow wave spectral power together with an increase in gamma rhythm, is a sign of cortical excitation which has also been found responsible for alleviating depression symptoms. Further analysis confirmed that the reduction in delta and theta correlated with the reduction in depression observed.

What about ethical standards?

As a member of the Breath & Consciousness Academy and the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF) I fully support and practice the ethical standards of the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF) and the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA).

Why this technique?

Conscious Connected Breathing is a deep trauma release technique. It provides a safe way to release supressed emotions, allowing the body and mind to release tension and stress.

What commitment is required?

It is best to start with one session to see if it is the right fit.

I would recommend 5 additional sessions to experience the depth of your breath and to feel the benefits of this technique.

What results can I expect?

The results are immediate. This can include feeling more grounded and focused. Often clients feel relaxed, recharged and joyful. There is a reconnection with the body. With multiple sessions there is often a deep release of old emotions and difficult life experiences that we can finally let go of safely.

How much does the session cost?

A two hour session is €120.00

A multi session discount package is available.

Concessions for seniors, students and job seekers is per session €80.00.

What if I have a medical condition?

Breath Discovery technique acitivates the nervous system.

If you have suffered or suffer from psychosis, epilepsy, atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure or similar conditions this is not a safe technique and should not be experienced.

If you are pregnant this technique can be experienced but in a gentle and safe way.
